                            Special
                            Olympics Ohio License Plate

The state of Ohio has approved a
                            Special Olympics license plate. These
plates will be available for purchase
early this summer. The plates will
include the Special Olympics logo and
will cost and additional $25 when you
                            purchase your tags. Special Olympics
Ohio will receive $15 for every plate
sold and we are required to sell 500
tags each year to keep the plate in
                            circulation.

                            The application and approval process
for this project was initiated by a
                            Tuscarawas Co. Special Olympic
                            parent, David Roth. Roth collected
                            the necessary petitions and followed
                            the approval process through the
                            House and Senate.

Roth said the reason why he pursued
                            the license plate initiative was
                            quite simple. "I wanted
one," said Roth, who has noticed
the Special Olympics logo on the
                            license plates of other states.
                            Roths daughter, Allison, is a
                            Special Olympics athlete who
                            participates in basketball and
bowling. Ross collected all of the
                            necessary signatures on a petition
necessary to gain approval. He said
he mostly did this by attending
                            Special Olympics events, such as
State Summer Games and Polar Plunges.

Ross said he is hopeful the plate
will be available for purchase by
                            this June.
